Jamboree, a nonprofit affordable housing developer, in partnership with the City of Brea, will transform a vacant city-owned lot into 39 units of Permanent Supportive Housing for individuals who are experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness. This partnership between the City and Jamboree will provide these individuals with a place to call home and onsite services that enable them to thrive.
Jamboree’s commitment to community engagement
Jamboree is committed to being a good neighbor. Establishing relationships with the neighborhoods we build in leads to developments that are an asset for the entire community. As part of our commitment, Jamboree is holding public outreach meetings where the community can offer feedback, ask questions, and share their concerns. Building for Good
Jamboree delivers high-quality affordable housing and services that transform lives and strengthen communities. As one of California’s largest affordable developers, Jamboree’s innovative “whatever it takes” approach brings Jamboree and external service providers onsite to provide residents with needed care.
As a community developer, Jamboree’s goal is to create an asset that benefits residents and the community as a whole. For over a decade, Jamboree has been a part of the Brea community. Once open, this development will be Jamboree's third community in the City of Brea. In 2012, Jamboree completed Bonterra, creating 94 affordable apartment homes on a hillside that formerly hosted 50 active oil wells. A year later, Birch Hills opened, delivering 115 more units of affordable housing to Brea families. Each time, Jamboree has worked closely with the City to build a development that complements the existing neighborhood.
Jamboree believes that establishing collaborative partnerships with the City, neighbors, and local organizations, leads to developments that integrate into and enhance the existing community.
Is this property a homeless shelter?
This new development is not a shelter. It provides permanent housing, and like other apartment communities, residents will sign a lease. Violating the lease and breaking house rules can lead to eviction. Walk-up services will not be provided. Additionally, Jamboree will screen residents and conduct background checks as part of the application process.
Property management will work with Jamboree to ensure all residents follow Jamboree’s good neighbor commitment and abide by the apartment community’s rules.
Good Neighbor Policy
As a community developer, Jamboree has a long-term interest in the neighborhoods where our communities are located and will operate the building for at least 55 years. Jamboree is committed to strengthening the community as a whole and enacts a "Good Neighbor Policy" at each of our developments.
Trained onsite staff, including a live-in property manager, maintain the property and create meaningful connections with neighbors. Additionally, onsite staff ensure that residents abide by "house rules" and Jamboree's commitment to being a good neighbor.
At every property, Jamboree creates a site-specific security plan. These plans consider the needs of residents, staff, visitors, and the general public. Research demonstrates that affordable housing does not lead to a rise in neighborhood crime. A 2022 UC Irvine study on the effects of affordable housing in Orange County, CA, reaffirmed this. In fact, the study showed that areas near affordable housing saw modest decreases in crime. This has also been Jamboree's experience in our 30+ years as a nonprofit community developer.
As with any community, neighborhood issues can occur and can be quickly addressed by bringing them to Jamboree's attention. If neighbors need to get in touch with staff, contact information for property management will be displayed on the property's webpage. It will be updated on this page once it is available. They can also email outreach@jamboreehousing.com
Supportive Services that Work
Jamboree’s proven supportive housing model provides services and programs that help our residents thrive and reach their goals. Residents will have onsite access to trained professionals who can supply services and support – including case management, life skills education, job placement training, behavioral and mental health counseling, and opportunities for social connections and activities. Additionally, an onsite program coordinator will assist residents in accessing other vital local community services, like food assistance programs. Jamboree’s “whatever it takes” approach to services yields results. 97% of residents in our supportive housing developments report improved physical and mental health. 94% of residents stay stably housed, ending the cycle of homelessness.
