Extensively renovated in 2010, Grove Park is a scattered-site affordable housing community for families comprised of 13 eight-plexes located in the Buena Clinton neighborhood of Garden Grove, CA. Improvements included many interior and exterior renovations, including improvements to the landscaping and irrigation system. Grove Park is walking distance to local schools, shopping, dining, bus lines and a car share. Residents were temporarily relocated during the renovation.
The large-scale rehabilitation of Grove Park was part of an overall redevelopment plan that reflects the City of Garden Grove’s ongoing commitment to improve the Buena Clinton neighborhood. The area suffered from high poverty and crime rates, but a major revitalization effort begun in the late 1980s has turned around this neighborhood. Through the combined efforts of local government officials and residents, crime rates have dropped and quality of life for residents has improved. City of Garden Grove leaders drafted a comprehensive neighborhood revitalization strategy, and developed a public/private partnership to acquire and rehabilitate the buildings. The reality of that commitment now spans 20 years and Jamboree has been an integral part of that since 1996. The Grove Park renovation was another important part of these improvement efforts.
Residents at Grove Park – as well as Jamboree’s nearby Briar Crest, Rose Crest and Sunswept – actively participate at the award-winning Buena Clinton Youth & Family Center. Neighborhood programs and services include a parent advisory committee, parent volunteers, and parent education classes. A strong safety component includes neighborhood outreach meetings with local police, car seat safety, identify theft protection, renter's rights and much more.
Jamboree’s Community Impact Group provides academic support services to help children excel in school, activities aimed at keeping engaged seniors in the community, and builds neighborhood rapport between residents and other property managers in the area. Jamboree’s onsite services coordinator assists residents with referrals to local social service and medical providers, and plans regular community gatherings and social events. Core to its value of promoting healthy living, Jamboree hosts a weekly health and fitness program for all Grove Park residents.
The renovations of Grove Park, along with other communities on the street, have helped to transform and revitalize the neighborhood, highlighting how Jamboree’s unique and sustaining partnerships with local government, investors and property management result in safe, secure, long-term quality housing for residents.
